The Oratory Schools comes from humble beginnings in the Rio Grande Valley. In 1983, the dream to make a Catholic school in the Valley was set in motion. What began with only 15 students soon developed into 3 different schools in the Rio Grande Valley and Reynosa, Mexico. The Oratory Academy includes elementary, middle school, and high school grade levels. The Academy offers dual language courses in a bicultural setting. The second campus established was the Oratory Athenaeum, which consists of middle school and high school. The Oratory Schools continue the message of St. Philip Neri and Catholic ideals. The Athenaeum was the first Catholic high school to open in Hidalgo County. The students of the Athenaeum have participated in numerous conferences held all around the world. These students are also educated in different languages including English, Spanish, and French. Finally, we have the Newman Institute, an Oratory campus in Reynosa, Mexico. Both the Oratory Academy and the Athenaeum are located in Pharr, Texas. These schools follow the example of their founder, Saint Philip Neri. Besides the existing campuses, the Oratory Schools are adding a new complex, which will include: 20 classrooms, specialty rooms and labs, cafeteria, and a library/media center. By adding to the already existing campuses, the Oratory Schools will continue to grow, providing the opportunity for students of both sides of the border to obtain a Catholic education. The Oratory Schools Motto is: "Ex Umbris Et Imaginibus Ad Lucem" which means, "Out of the shadows and darkness into the light". The Oratory Schools are growing daily and will continue to provide their students with a bicultural education in the spirit of St. Philip Neri.
